Grit Is A Buzz Word; It's Not Real.

Marketing manipulates your perception and thoughts - plain and simple.

Amanda Duckworth made a notable show of the word grit. Worldwide acclaim, best-selling book, Ted talk that has had millions of views. She created her own "grit" scale which includes measures of perseverance and consistency.

Jordan Peterson thinks very differently he says it doesn't exist as you cannot measure grit alone as it stands under one of the "big 5" personality traits; conscientiousness.

Who is right?

It would always be so simple to reduce success in life, whatever that means, down to one common factor.

But even grit, whilst falling under the conscientiousness banner is not standalone.

The other 4 traits being; agreeableness, openness, extroversion, neuroticism.

And we all score at different levels in each area.

The criticism against Duckworth is grit, as far as psychological circles go, has been studied for decades under the big 5 personality traits.

It's simply an old term being given a new marketing spin.

It doesn't mean it's not real it simply means it's part of a bigger part of the personality of a successful individual makeup - as well as other factors.

People and personalities are far more complex than a single trait and it would pay you to know where you score in each of those areas so you can get a better grasp on the types of jobs, careers, projects you should and shouldn't engage in.

Often people get let down because they think they "can't stick out" and job or business because they "lack" grit or persistence and that may not be 100% accurate as your personality may be clashing with the role.

Find your personality traits and find the role that suits it and that is a recipe for success,
